Comic Book Shoes

Yes, you read that title right... I made comic book shoes!!! I'm not sure if I have mentioned it lately but Modpauge and I have become quite close... in fact I think sewing machine and glue gun are starting to notice and might be getting a bit jealous LOL!

So I got these plain white kinda boring flats from Wal-Mart and thought what can I do with these to make them look a bit more "Zazzy" (Say it like Sheldon from BBT lol!) and then it hit me!... why not modpauge something on them?... I had just bought this big bottle of modpauge from hobby lobby (while it was on sale) and what better way to break it in. It pained me a little to be cutting up a comic book... what a HUGE no no... but it's a new one and there was nothing significant about it other than the pages were really bright and it had some of my favorite hero's in it. So I bit my lip and tore off some pages to cut out strips to modpauge to my shoes, and so began my project. And I have to say it was pretty easy... a little messy, but easy. And now I LOOOOOOOVE them... I have slapped on about 4 coats of modpauge and then sprayed them with clear coat from krylon juuuuuuust to make sure they are sealed pretty good... but I don't think I'll be wearing them in the rain just because I would cry (ALOT) if they got ruined. Anyway here they are... let me know what you think? :)

Oh, Please excuse the white spots that's just the modpauge drying...
I got a little eager to take pics and post them to my facebook without letting
them dry fully... what can I say? I got a little excited lol!

I even put Green Lantern on my shoes.

And Wahla! Ready to go! :D

In Brightest Day and Blackest Night...

*Uber Geek Alert*

Two things fantastical happened in the world of comics today. One being that Batman Inc came out and the other is the release of the full Green Lantern trailer! I have ordered Batman Inc and I am trying to get the variant(s) cover(s) there are 2 that came out today and by god I will get them at stand price! Ryan Reynolds is cast to be Hal Jordan aka. The Green Lantern and I really have to say I think he will play him well and from the watching the interviews, he seems to know what hes doing. The movie is projected to be out June 2011 and I cant WAIT to go see it. The munchkin is just as insanely excited about it as I am. I also am absolutely in LOVE with the ring and hope to god they do a replica of it so that be lucky enough to buy it and have it grace my "All things comic" collection.

In brightest day and blackest night
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil's might beware my power.
Green Lanterns light!

Some girls shop for shoes, I shop for Comics...

Some girls shop for shoes, make-up or other girly possessions...not this girl... no, she wants comic books instead.

My shopping adventure today consisted of going to my 2 favorite comic book store; 3 Alarm and Jak's. Ok ok... so they are the only 2 comic book stores in the gulf coast area... but hey who's counting? I happen to be in the market for the new Batman & Robin # 16 that just recently came out last Wednesday becaaaaaause in it, Bruce Wayne has proclaimed his long time secret that he is responsible for funding Batman's war on crime and will fund Batman Inc. (a group of batmen around the world)! Which will allow for a new series to be born... Batman Inc. of course. This is a HUGE deal for us comic book geeks, and for those of you that are not that well in the know... it makes a non-connection between Bruce Wayne and Batman, that he is the MAN behind Batman but not actually Batman himself... but we all know the truth don't we? ;) I am a little surprised that Grant Morrison has let the "bat out of the bag" in this way but I'm still am happy to see it. Needless to say I cant wait for Batman Inc. to come out, which will be coming out next Wednesday! *Squeeeeeeel!* Since I am a few days late on getting my ass to the store, it goes without saying I didn't bring home a copy today... but, I did order the variant cover copy online from TFAW.com which is an awesome website for all things comic related. And waiting a few days and getting the variant cover is worth the wait. ;)

I also managed to pick up Zatanna # 1 for stand price! SCORE!! Most other comic book stores are selling it for around $ 10-15 bucks now. I also got the one shot of Batman Catwoman: Follow the Money Hooray for One Shots! :D All in all it was a great day for finding comics and my collection and inner geek is extremely happy :D

Future Geek Girl

Hubs is working his usual night shift tonight and we decided to meet up at Subway for dinner (BTW...they give military discount, not 100% sure if its all of them but its worth a shot to ask) after we ate and Hubbers went back to work, I took the kiddo across the street to the mall. She LOVES to waste spend time in Books A Million looking at comics. What can I say... like mother and father like daughter... LOL! She is my little Padawan in the making and I just had to share...

And for the record she chose # 21 of Batman: The Brave and The Bold over Marvel Squad phew she is a DC girl all the way... except for pesky Iron Man LOL!

I Heart Comics!

Its Sunday... and there's not much to do around here on a Sunday, seems as if everything closes up early or isn't even open at all. So one of my favorite things to do is head to the comic shop (3 Alarm Comics) Its like my sanctuary :)

Today I stumbled upon an Azrael # 1 (from '95) and it happens to be in mint condition, original Batman # 281 and # 283 they are not exactly mint but they aren't bad either. At a 9.4 condition they are worth about $25.00 a piece, which they are not at but they I'd like to say they are worth at least more than the $1.50 I paid for them. If I could grade them myself (if only) Id probably put them at a 7.0 which is Fine/Very Fine and it might be worth... say $11.00, still that's better what I bought them for. You have to understand mints and gems are really rare with old comics they pretty much could have been read once or twice and then put back in the plastic and then locked in a hazard proof safe for the last 20 years lol! Some day, Id love to get my comics graded its just such an extra added expense, but worth it when you have some goodies.

I also made the executive decision to start collecting the new Zatanna series. They just recently started in July of this year. Shes been featured in lots of JLA comics and a several of Batman's series as well, but I am glad that shes getting her own feature. The comic is written by my personal favorite writer Mr. Paul Dini, who also writes the Gotham City Siren Series. He is amazing and even though hes now going over to The Dark Side Marvel to write the Ultimate Spider-man animated series, I still love him!

And speaking of my beloved series (GCS) I finally picked up # 15 & 16 from my subscription box. Its been so crazy around here lately, I hadn't had the chance to go in a pick them up. Now I'm all caught up and am looking forward to next month for new issues!
