Around Town...

Hi there!!! Have you missed me? LOL! Sorry we've been kinda busy lately... which of course is a good thing while the hubby is away. My In-Laws came from Florida for Easter weekend, they drove in on that Thursday and stayed till the following Monday and we've been busy ever since! Hope you all had a good Easter! It was my first Easter NOT cooking and man, I'll tell you... I could get used to that! I never understood why people ended up going out to eat for the big holidays but I TOTALLY get it!!! Think about it... you don't have to cook and you didn't have to plan, you didn't have to spend extra money on food that might go to waste, there's no mess to clean up and everyone still gets to be together and have a nice meal! It was just the four of us... me, munchkin and momma-in-law and daddy-in-law and we decided (and by we, I mean I) to go to the Beau Rivage Casino Buffet. It was awesome! They had all our usual regular favorite foods (I LOVE the pasta station) and roasted Turkey, Glazed Ham, Prime Rib and Snow Crab!!! All for $29.99 you can't beat that folks!

We also went to the Easter Egg parade & egg hunt, which I have to say I was a bit disappointed in... The parade was almost non-existent (and whoo, they threw old mardi gras beads... like we don't have a ton of those already at home) The egg hunt was small and the kiddo didn't get a whole lot of eggs and all they had inside were cheap candy like tootsie rolls and smarties. I guess its better than nothing, but next time I will know better and just skip it to do my own at home.

We went a few days to the beach and lounged in the sun and flew our kites which was awesome since we've had alot of wind from the weather system that moved over Texas a week or so ago, ya know... the one that caused all those Tornados... Which by the way... the kiddo has been eating up the news on that stuff lately LOL! She is still very much on her "tornado kick" ;)

I also took my in-laws around to the local spots while they were here, and I think they really enjoyed seeing the "off the beaten path" not so touristy spots. We have a small beach community down here that is just over the bridge from Biloxi and its called "Ocean Springs" (ya might have heard me mention it before... I used to work over there). I have always loved it, and thought it was a charming little town with a beautiful historical center. They have cute boutiques and shops, amazing restaurants, cafes and bistros and its just beautiful to stroll down the cobblestone streets under the shad of the magnolia trees, when they are in bloom. It's really like page right out of Southern Hospitality magazine... they even have a old fashioned salt water taffy store and a 50's five & dime soda shoppe!

I know we've done a ton of other stuff but this is all I can think of at the moment, time seems to be flying by and there are days where I struggle to keep up with it, but I am grateful! We have offically 36 more days of school left (and until we are Florida bound) and about 90 days left till we go on our vacation to North Carolina! Woohoo! I can't wait!!!

Here's some of the pics I took while strolling around town... I just love the vintage look of everything... hope you like them. :)

This one is from inside the five & dime and soda shoppe and its probably my favorite.
It reminds me of the place that my grandparents used to work at.

They also brew and bottle their own cream soda! Its still the same family recipe from 1943!

Old fashioned hard candy... and one oogling kiddo LOL! Only .20 cents!
See! You still can get "some" things for less than a quarter ;)

My favorite donut shop ever! Hands down they have the best donuts ever... why?
Because they are made with potato flour! And the potato flour makes them light and fluffy!
Plus everyone in there is nice as peach pie... don't believe me?... come see for yourself any day of the week the counter inside is packed wall to wall ;)

Rollerskating Weekend!

This past weekend was a fun filled Girl Scout dedicated weekend for my munchkin. Saturday her girl scout troop went to the movies and saw Beauty and the Beast on the big screen, which of course she loved. They got to go early and have the whole theater to themselves, including free popcorn and drinks! Now, that you can't beat! Saturday evening was our 100 years in Girl Scout celebration, all the troops from our service unit got together at the community center and played games, did crafts, pony rides, and had food and cake. Monday (since it was MLK day, and the kids were off of school) we went with our service unit again to the local skating rink! The munchkin got to roller skate for the first time! At first she was a little apprehensive about it but after a few times around the rink she was fine. She was amazed that her dad and I knew how to do it... and that mommy could go backwards! (Years, of practice people!) It was seriously so much fun though, I can't wait to taker her back and do it again, I even felt like a kid again! The place we went to also brought back soooooooo many memories for me. As a kid, I had my birthday part at the skating rink just about every year, and I looked forward to it, because it was just so much fun! Check out the pics! I even have a video for ya! ;)

Random Weekend

Sorry I've been a little MIA for the last few days, I've not been THAT busy I just don't have much to blog about. I just figure why bore you with mundane details right? So here's the cliff notes version. I am loving that we have had such a long weekend, Hubs has been off of work since Thursday! Woohoo! It would have been nice to go some where and enjoy it a little bit more but we'll be doing plenty of that next week when my in-laws arrive on Wednesday.

So far Thursday we spent re-doing the weather stripping on the vette which took about all afternoon. You have to take the door panels of to get to all of it so its kinda a pain in the ass, but with the two of us it wasn't too bad. We went to Chili's so Hubs could get his free Veteran's day meal. I was expecting it to be insane but we only actually ended up waiting about 15 mins... I was shocked, seeing how we live in a military town. I think it was the cheapest meal we've ever eaten as a family, in fact my meal was the most expensive at a whopping $7.99. Even the munchkin just wanted cheese fries! I think our total came to about $12.00 including drinks.

Friday was the corvette club meeting (Hubs is the secretary and web designer, so we usually kinda sorta have to go) and then we went to dinner with the club at El Rancho's... My FAVORITE local Mexican restaurant. Our poor waiter... I don't think he had ever handled a group as big as ours.... in the end he was so confused as to who ordered the chimichanga or the quesodilla. LOL! Followed by a walk around Wal-Mart (not my favorite but it was close) I dunno about you guys but I feel like I HAVE to walk around a bit after I eat... it just hurts if I don't. It feels like everything is just stuck right there in middle of my stomach and will take forever to digest, so I make it a point to walk around somewhere... which is usually a store and leads to impulsive buys like a CUTE new nail polish called Sunset Strip by Hard Candy and looks very fall festive on my pretty little piggies and some hair dye. Yup its been dyed yet again... I don't think I've actually seen my natural color in YEARS like were talking a good 12 years at least. I do know that if I did grow it all out Id probably be waaaaaaay gray, its just in my genes on dad's side. :P So anyway its a dark blond with platinum high lights and the bottom around my nape is black (like it has been dipped in tar) sounds weird but I actually like it.

Saturday was pay day and with no surprise grocery shopping day. We bought the Turkey and the Ham for Thanksgiving. I bought both meats in case the Airman we are having over don't end up liking Turkey there is always Ham. Its no strange thing to me to have both, I grew up that way. My dad is NOT a turkey eater so mom always ended up making both. I have to say I love the commissary, the older retired spouses always crack me up...

As for today its laundry day and Christmas shopping day. I'm probably going to head out and finish up getting stuff for the munchkin. On the list is the Leapster Explorer (that's her big gift this year), Some accessories for her Batcave that she will be getting, The Crayola color dome, and probably one or 2 other random NON GIRLY toys LOL. She is such her mothers daughter.

Hope you all are having a fabulous weekend (hope I didn't bore you too much) and I shall post more soon. I will have another craft project post soon (as I finish it). Its for Thanksgiving so I'm trying to finish it up ASAP. lol. I leave you with a pretty sunset that was taken by me on Thursday at the beach which is about 2 blocks from our house.
