Summer Time Fun Time: At The Family Drive-In!!!

So with the official start of summer underway... We spent breaking it in by spending our Memorial Day weekend at the Family Drive-In in Stephen City Virginia. We have spent many nights at the Drive-In before while we were stationed in Georgia. We used to love going up to the Big Mo in Monetta South Carolina all the time! This Drive-In in Stephen City did not disappoint either! There is truly something awesome about watching movies at an old fashioned Drive-In theater. I often wonder if still feels the same way as when my grandparents and my parents used to go...

Since it was opening night and they were also kicking off the summer, they had a Triple Feature night going; first feature was X-Men: Day's of Future Past (which was AWESOME!), second was The Amazing Spiderman 2 (which was equally as AWESOME!) and third was Captain America: Winter Soldier (which was awesome but we have seen previously before). So we ended up staying for the first two but skipped out on Captain America since we saw it a few weeks before, and we also had about an hour drive home. We had such a great time and can't wait to go again, the Drive-In itself was classic and even showed the classic intermission mini feature just like they show in Grease!... you know the one where the hot dog dances, and the ice cream march around while Danny (John Travolta) sings... "Ohhh Sandy"... yep it was nostalgic and awesome! Here's some of the pics from our evening...

Waiting to get in...it was PACKED!

Xmen, Spiderman 2 and Captain America!

Our little slice of heaven for the night!

Yes, they really did still have the old fashion speaker boxes and they actually worked! Amazing right?!?

Our view of the shows!

Me and the little hanging out before the show starts.

Classic Intermission just like in Grease!

Everything is Awesome!!!

Good Cop, Tako Man & Batman all had a great time at the movies too!
This weekend hubs and I took the kiddo to go see the Lego Movie... and if you haven't guessed... it was really awesome!!! The company the hubs works for had a few vendors sponsor a private screening for company employees and their families, he signed us up a few weeks ago for freebie tickets and well, this morning we had the whole cinema to ourselves! It was great! They had breakfast for us there, gave us cool Lego swag, and a $20 dollar gift card to the concession stand for free! Have I mentioned how much I LOOOOOVE the company my husband works for! Seriously... it's amazing! So if you get the chance, go see the movie... it will not disappoint! And FYI, Will Arnett as the voice for Batman is seriously the best idea EVER! LOL!

Getting ready to watch their debuts!

Shhhh!!! Tako man your crunching your popcorn too loud!! It's about to start!

Batman just sneaking a sip of some diet coke... LOL!

The kiddo keeping these three in line before the movie starts :)

"At the Movies" themed wreath craft for movie theater room or media center!

I think my crafty side side has taken over lately! I feel the need to craft up a storm. Oh pinterest why do you inspire me so, you are killing my wallet LOL! Remember a while back when I showed you all pics of our new house, and told you about turning the basement into a "movie theater room". Well, it's coming along nicely! I have added little touches here and there to give it more of a "movie feel", I have recently hung a bit more decor, added a few nick-nacks and eventually I'd like to make "box office" around the entrance with curtains and everything. For now though, I made a wreath. I think it turned out pretty nice too :)

I did manage to take a few more photos so you could get the jest of how I put it all together, sorry I'm still crap at making "tutorials"... LOL! Anyway here it is! :)

So first things first... I went to Michales (yea, they've seen me a lot lately... it's becoming my second home LOL!) and bought a flat wreath from the floral section ($4.99) and then to office depot to buy white packing peanuts (NEVER thought I'd make a wreath out of that LOL!) medium size back was about $6.00, and I used the left over to put in my kiddos bean back, fixed that from flat to fab in less than two minutes!! So once you've got both of those, I took my kitchen shears and cut the packing peanuts in half.

I then fired up my trusty glue gun and started to glue around the flat board wreath to make it look like "popcorn". Just watch your fingers since the glue is hot and the foam tends to shrink... I was burnt at least a dozen times during this process LOL!

So once you've got all your wreath covered to your liking (I went around a few times since I wanted mine pretty full). I then just barely grazed the wreath with some yellow spray paint to make the packing peanuts look more realistic to buttery popcorn. I then grabbed some garland that I had picked up on my trip to Michalels ($1.99 each) and started to wrap that all up around the wreath.

After I got the garland attached, I then decided to take some red (WIRED- because it works best) ribbon and make a big bow from it. Sorry for the lack of pics on this part but it's fairly easy to do. Just keep wrapping big loops around a finger and then slip the last part through when your at the end of the ribbon. :)

I then realized I had all these "movie tickets" left over from an old project (you can find a whole roll at dollar tree for a buck, or just about any party/office supply store has them too) and thought, how cool would it be if I made a bow out of them. So once again, I fired up the glue gun an just started looping until I liked it, when I liked that look I glued it. I also decided it might not look too bad if I also used the ticket's to wrap around the wreath also (sorry for the lack of pic... again) but it was Eaaaasy Peaasy :)

Of course then, I wasn't crazy about the red on red combo so, I decided to take some black ribbon and loop that around to make it look like a flower, I then glued all three bows together  and attached them to the lower right hand corner of the wreath. I also had these left over cardboard popcorn boxes and decided to glue them together and then glue them to the top of the bow but onto the actual "popcorn" part of the wreath. I attached a bit of ribbon with my glue gun to the back to fashion a hanger and TA-DA! Done!!!

Here's the finished product... hung nicely on the door to our basement. I love the size of the wreath and I love all the colors, it really makes me hungry for popcorn every time I look at it! :)

My Mini Blockbuster...

That is what I've been up to! I don't know if I've ever mentioned it before but we have over 800 movies in our collection, not counting what I bought recently and the TV season we own as well. I know how crazy that sounds, and how we must look like a mini block buster, but before you can ask... yes, we really do watch them all... at some point LOL! In my house alone we have dedicated 1 full bookshelf, 1 half bookshelf, and two cabinets above our entertainment center to dvds, tv series and blu ray dvds. That's a lot of space! And a lot of wasted space taken up by the bulk of the cases!

We've been living like this for over 5 years now and it has been slowly driving me up the wall, everything is so cluttered up and it take a while to find any particular dvd. I try my best to keep it organized and labeled but its hard, with that many dvd's if one or two get out of order chaos will soon take over; and then of course once that happens... no one wants to spend all day correcting it right?!

Until now...! I have stumbled upon my ultimate "get organized" tool for my colossal dvd collection, while shopping around at target! They now make these cool "movie sleeves". You just take out the dvd cover (if you want it, I did!) put it in the sleeve and take out your dvd and slid it in the extra sleeve insert and whala! Then take that big, black, bulky case and shooov.... ok... chuck it in the trash! ;)

It's as easy as that... you can go from this...

and this...
and this...
and *gasp* this...
(and BTW... those are stacked 3 deep)

To this...

There are 25 sleeves of dvd's there in the pile compared to the 25 big, black, bulky, empty cases.
And as you can tell from the picture, 25 sleeves take up as much space as about 4 cases. Yes folks, I think we have a miracle! I plan on putting the new dvd's in really cute bins, once I get the chance to get all the dvd's organized into the sleeves and I find some material to cuteify
(yes, I totally made that word up) the bins. I then want to store the bins in our new storage coffee table that I just bought last week. This is going to be a project and a half when considering the extent of our collection but it's something to keep me busy with from now till vacation! :)

What do you think?

This is a close up of what the sleeves actually look like. I put the cover (because I just couldn't talk myself into getting rid of the covers) to face the back of the sleeve and then the dvd's toward the flap. There is an extra plastic insert inside the sleeve so that you can put your dvd's in there and the wont become scratched; and as you can see it holds more than one dvd. You could probably even get three in there if you needed to; 2 in the sleeves and one loose. :)

A Moivie Date

Oh ya know what...? In the midst of all my doctor/fertility reporting I forgot to mention...
Hubby and I had a date night! Woohoo! This one was sans guns (we would have had there been more time though) LOL! About a month ago I won a contest through scentsy and they sent me a prize package full of goodies, one goody being a gift card to The Grand Theater so we decided to put it to good use on Saturday night and go watch The Help. Yeah, I was a little shocked that hubby wanted to see it, he's not much for drama and girly stuff but he sat with me through it and even said he liked it afterward. I, in fact LOVED it! It made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me never want to eat chocolate pie again LMAO! I'm not even going to mention why... but you seriously have to go watch it, its a great movie bound to warm your heart! I can't wait to read the book, its on my "to buy list" which is growing by the minute! Hope you all are having a great week! :)

10 Day You Challenge: Day 3

Today is day three of my 10 day challenge, I took a wittle break over the weekend...sorry... had laundry and other house crap to do ;)

I've been thinking about today's post though for a while... its not real specific about what kinda films, so I thought... what should I write about? One's I seen recently on DVD? Ones I've been to the movies to see? Ones that I want to see soon? So I'm actually gonna give you an answer to each of those categories.

Let's start off with one that I have seen recently on DVD. That would be RIO, I'll give you a guess as to which one of us in the family wanted to watch RIO ;) I didn't think I would be really interested in watching it at first, but for the munchkin's sake I sat pretty and tried to act like wanted to pay attention... after the first 10 minutes though, it didn't feel like a chore... I actually wanted to watch it! Its a really cute kids movie and has some great actors & actress's voices in it as well, and in the end I was glad we watch it.

The last movie I saw in the movie theater was; Captain America. It was by far my favorite marvel movie. Yes, it even beats out both Iron Man movies & The Spiderman Trilogy, I love it that much! I loved everything about it, the way it showed why America needed a superhero then, how- no matter how small and weak your perceived to be, a true hero comes from your heart and draws its strength from your courage. I loved how it was mostly true to the comic books. It had a great plot and a great group of actors, I cant wait till next summer when they come out with the Avengers movie! Its gonna be so bad ass!

And the movie I'm dying to see in theater's is Fright Night! I just hope it's as good as the original back in 1985. It's a cult classic and I hope they do it justice with the new one. It is a remake of the orginial so I'm trying not to get my hopes up.... I almost HATE when Hollywood does remakes of movies... I just don't get it... the original's are classic, why mess with that? Like for example... they are remaking Footloose and Dirty Dancing... yeah I can just see Patrick Swayze rolling his eyes in his grave right now. Boy, I sound optimistic don't I? We'll truth be told... Colin Farrell is in the new Fright Night, so all hope can't be lost. He is one of my favorite "bad boys". ;)

The 25 Days of Christmas Challenge: Day 5

Day 5: What is your favorite Christmas movie?

I have a few actually... in no particular order they are...

1. A Christmas Story: Ralphy's Dad has got to be my favorite dad of all time... I even use some of his phrases to this day! Like... Nadafinga! I even call our heater the clinker! LMAO!

2. Family Man: Because without a doubt this movie makes me cry every time I watch it... because after all family and friends are all we have and who we should celebrating Christmas with.

3. The Family Stone: Another great funny yet bittersweet movie

4. Love Actually: OMG! One of my favorite movies, I will watch it even when its not Christmas! I love all the different little stories within this movie and Huge Grant makes me really laugh.

5. The Grinch: My favorite Christmas movie to watch with the munchkin. We watch both the animated one and the one with Jim Carrey.

6. National Lampoons Christmas Vacation: Still makes me crack up to this day! I love cousin Eddy and honestly feel like I have one just like him... Don't worry mom, I wont name any names mom LOL!

30 Days of Me: Day 2

Day 2: Favorite Movie

Again, here I am having to "amend" this one to... there are just too, too many that I love
to list just one. So I'm just gonna give you the run down of the ones, I would be pissed if
TMO would lose while moving us. LOL

So staring without any particular order...

Cry Baby: My beyond favorite movie with Johnny Depp... I love the 50's era and the
quirkiness of of John Waters direction. Besides who can resist at movie that has
Johnny Depp, Traci Lords, Iggy Pop and Ricki Lake in it! It has some of the best music
too! "Synopsis Says" Drape Wade Walker, also known as Cry Baby for his ability to shed a single tear, falls head over heels for square
Allison Vernon-Williams who, incidentally, is tired of being good!

Domino: Starring Keira Knightley, Mickey Rourke, Delroy Lindo, Mo'Nique, Macy Gray and the oh so yummy Edgar ramirez! This movie is loosely based on the life of bounty hunter (and personal my personal role model) Domino Harvey. Its a great tale and
shot by one of my all time favorite directors Mr. Tony Scott, his style just rocks my world! His movies are like being on a candy apple acid trip!

Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman Begins & Dark Knight: Note how Batman & Robin are not listed... yeah thats because Joel-freakin-Schumacher ruined the franchise when he put nipples in the bat suit!... If I ever meet him one day... Im gonna ask him Joel... WTF were you thinking! And then punch him straight in the nose! And George Clooney? Seriously....
He just makes me wanna puke! As for the others... I have and will always love Michael Keaton as batman, he is the reason I have fallen in love with Batman... he just made it come to life for me. Christian Bale plays an excellent batman and I am extremely pleased with the way Christopher Nolan has told the story in his new franchise. If you read the comics, he hasnt
totally done justice to them but then again there are so many ways to tell Batman's story that you could hardly pick one way. Never the less I think hes done a great job. And let us not forget the best joker known to man... Mr. Heath Ledger. Oh how I wish you were still among us.

Top Gun: Ok this one is a given... its my favorite Tom Cruise movie of all time. This is the movie I grew up watching and made
me answer "fighter pilot" to Mrs. Elswick's question of what I wanted to be when I grew up, in the 1st grade. Oooh so many lines that I could quote... unless you count that one time while I was really drunk and made a bet to... uh... nevermind ;) but lets just say I'll never forget that its "I feel the need, the need for speed not I HAVE the need for speed" ;)

All The Right Moves: Another Tom Cruise favorite. This one is a just a given too... because its shot in my dad's home town of Johnstown, PA. I fact both my parents are in the movie as extra's in a scene where its shot at my dads old high school.

A Life Less Ordinary: Another one of my quirky favorites! A tale of star crossed lovers in a sense of extraordinary measures. Has a great story line and stars Cameron Diaz and Ewan McGregor.

Four Rooms; Two words; Tim Roth! A story of hilarious mishap in a famous hotel on New Years Eve... and you'll never guess the ending! Another interesting fact is that this movie has 4 writers and directors ;)

Green Card; GREAT 90's film, starring Gerard Depardieu and Andie MacDowell. He wants a green card, she wants a green house...what to do? Oh lets get married... and see what happens!

Le Divorce: I have to admit the book by Diane Johnson is way better but the movie is great too. It stars Kate Hudson, Naomi Watts, and Stockard Channing.

Green Street Hooligans: An awesome movie about my favorite (European) Football team: West Ham United! This movie gives a great insider eye as to what "football" hooliganism is all about. And it has some good eye candy in it too.

XXX & The Marine: This is totally bias but my favorite hunky men are Vin Diesel & John Cena!

Where the Heart is: Cute little chick flick also based on a book by Bettie Letts. Starring Natalie Portman and Stockard Channing.

Bend it like Beckam: Girls playing soccer that equals kick ass in my book... seeing is how I used to play. I also love the directing style of Gurinder Chada... she also does a fantastic bollywood film called Bride and Prejuice which a cute Indian styled version of ... yup you guessed it, Pride & Prejudice.

Adams Family & Adams Family Values: Because thier ceepy and thier cookey and all together spooky. That makes a pretty good flick in my opinion. :)

The Back to the Future Trilogy: Yes, because Doc Brown ROCKS! This is the film that made me beg my mom and dad to buy a deloran! We had this on Betamax by the way... LOL!

Grease and Grease 2: Theres singing, theres dancing, theres John Travoltra, Oliva Newton John, Michelle Pfeifer and Maxwell Caulfield... not to mention it takes place in the 50s!

The Crow: Ohhhh Brandon Lee oh so yummy! I love insanely hot vigilanties! it has an awesome story line too.

The Punisher: I love the badass-ness of Frank Castle (played by Thomas Jane) it shows what any man would do had his family been taken from him. Dont you just love when justice prvails? Espeically by your own hand. ;)

Zombieland: Just my opinion but GREATEST zombie film known to man! Ok ok, I love George Romero's flicks too but this one I love especially for the "Billy Murray" scene... you know which one. I always tell my husband when he makes zombie type noises... "Dont make me Bill Murray you!"

And last but not least...

Boondock Saints: Oooh super yummy eye candy Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flannery... this movie holds dear to my heart for many many reasons... can you tell I have a thing for vigilantism? LOL!

So that sums up my list... yeah sums... LOL! Ok... ok.. so I could go on all day, what can I say I love movies! In fact I love them so much their usually something I give away as a gift. Mostly for birthdays and at Christmas... I put together a popcorn bucket of goodies like bags of pop corn, cinema candy like snowcaps and sour patch kids and a few movies that I think the person would like... and viol-la! You've got a great gift that's sure to be a hit! ... btw... thats our little secret , mmmm-kay ;)

I totally heart movies!

A Feel Good Movie

I watched the blind side tonight. It was amazing, it was heartfelt and humbling and I bawled my eyes out through most of it. The story was like a life lesson, one that I needed to be reminded of. It now ranks high on my list of favorite movies. I like that its based on true facts and that its not just a story someone made up. This was a mans life, it was his big chance at a real life. Sandra Bullock I think does superbly as “Momma” and Ive never seen Tim McGraw act before but hes does an excellent job as supporting actor and the husband. Quinton Aaron the man who plays Michael Oher (yes, as in the real NFL player for the Baltimore Ravens) really delivers in this movie. His performance is amazing and not only does he deliver the lines, he says them in such a way as to make you wanna gasp every time… just a bit. The story its self is a “rags to riches” kind and has some of the best “life’s messages”. Just watch it, you will be impressed, humbled and a bit more thankful for the “family” that you have. No matter who they are.

I AM IRON MAN! (2)

Today ROCKED!!! We saw Iron Man 2 and I gotta say I LOVE Robert Downy Jr. playing this role! He really makes a kick ass Iron Man. I think Mickey Rourke played a great villain, I LOVED seeing War Machine! I liked Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and REALLY hope they do a spin off movie of her. And also cant wait to see how they bring out the Avengers with Samuel L. Jackson! The kiddo loved it too… ever since we’ve watched the movie shes been holding up her fist going, chhkick, chhkick, BOOM! and pretending that a giant ass missile comes out of her fist. She also pretends to fly with her Iron man hands. I just totally love it! That's totally MY girl! No barbies, No my little ponys, no for her its Iron Man!

A Movie Afternoon

Mom and I took the munchkin to see “How to train your dragon” today. It was such a CUTE movie!!! What was even cuter was after it was over, she whispers to me… “Mommy, Can I have a pet dragon?” I just laughed and said she needed to ask daddy. How can you say no to a 4 year old who wants a dragon for a pet! My kid is so awesome!!! Then we went and had some pizza and wings and called it a night ;)

Hot Date

Tonight it was give parents a break, brought to you by the Keesler’s CDC. So him and I decided to take advantage of the break and go on a date… yes, a date… oh how its been so long!!! LOL!!! Its really awesome to just get a way for a bit and remember what life was like before we had the munchkin, I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world but it was a nice trip down memory lane.

We had dinner at hooters because we have missed wings. Lately every time we go out for dinner (once or twice ever 2 weeks) we’ve been wanting to try the local cuisine. We are in one of the best cities to try such delicious delectation’s, but last night we missed our wings so hooters it was! Then we headed over to The Grand in D’Iberville to watch “Spy Next Door”. It was pretty good, your typical Jackie Chan movie and had some pretty funny stunts and acting in it, even Billy Ray Cyrus surprised me with his acting skills! The little girl Laura who’s 4 in the movie reminds me so much of my munchkin. “I wanna be a cyborg!” and “This place doesn’t look like has chicken tenders either!” LOL

All in all it was a good time and I loved going out just me & the hubbers.

Girls Night Out

Tonight was girls night out!! YAY!! I think it was well deserved and in order since Ive been working so hard on school work, I really kinda needed the break. It was nice to just get out and relax with the girls a bit. We went to dinner, just chick-fil-a but it hit the spot, those wraps are so yummy! Then we went to the movies to see Dear John, which I loved and made me ball my little girlie eyes out tear up a bit.

I loved the movie and loved the actors but was slightly disappointed in the ending, I just felt a bit blank, I felt like I needed some closure. Other than that it was a great movie. I mean how could you not love 105 mins of Channing Tatum hottness!! He sure makes that Army uniform look incredible…

The deployment scenes were almost a little too realistic, one in particular where I think just about every military wife, fiance, girlfriend or signification other that was sitting in that theater jumped outta their skins. And other parts were so shocking it left you totally open mouthed.

All in all it was worth the time to take to see and I will probably own it once it comes out on dvd.
