Infertility Update

Just thought I'd give you all a little update since I haven't talked about it in a little while. After seeing Dr. "X" and having an awful experience with him a few months ago, I decieded to ask Tricare to allow me to seek a second opinion and they have referred me to Dr. "Hope" in Mobile Alabama. He is not just a OB/GYN like Dr. "X" is... Dr. "Hope" is actually a Fertility doc who specializes in Endocrinology... oh baby steps (no pun intended), but at least were getting somewhere... I am currently waiting on being scheduled by their office, that is IF they ever call me back one day. Have I mentioned how they only answer the phone from like 8am till 10am? I am also currently in the 2 week wait but am not real hopeful about this month... March has been extremely stressful and busy for me both socially and professionally, with having taken on this new job. To be down right honest... I'd be shocked if AF didn't arrive and by some miracle I were to have my BFP. But, hey one can hope and dream right? I'll keep you posted in the next week or 2 on my status, but until then... if you happen to see that baby dust fairy make sure you nabb her and shake the shit out of her for me ;) lol!

Book Review: Delicious and Suspicious by Riley Adams

Welcome to Aunt Pat's barbeque restaurant-family run and located in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. Named in honor of Lulu Taylor's great aunt, the restaurant is known for its ribs and spicy corn bread, but now the Taylor family will be known for murder-unless Lulu can clear their name... Rebecca Adrian came to Memphis to suss out the best local BBQ for prominent Cooking Channel show. Trouble is, Rebecca doesn't live long enough to mention a bad review. A mystery ingredient has killed her-and now all the fingers are pointing to Aunt Pat's restaurant. Horrified that her family is being accused of murder, Lulu fires up her investigative skills to solve the crime before someone else gets skewered...

I was very disappointed in this book, it was an extremely slow read for me.In fact I was about a third of he way through it when I just had to push my way through the rest of it, to just get to the end and say I finished it. I haven't felt that way about a book in a long time. It just had too many characters to keep up with, it was difficult to remember who was related to whom and what interactions they had with each other. I also felt like there were too many points of view from the characters, I understand that the author was trying to get everyone's two cents put in, but it just made it very confusing. I felt the plot was a little lacking also and that there could have been a better ending. I had very high hopes for this book but was seriously let down, It will take alot of convincing to pick up another one of Riley Adams books next time. Honestly... the best part about this book is the recipes in the back... to me it really wasn't worth the time. :(

Catching Up & Air Show Post

Happy Sunday Everyone! Well mine is not all that exciting... I'm spending the day cleaning up the house and finishing up the laundry before I have to go back to work tomorrow, which I'm not really looking forward to since our computer system will be down for a while... that should be LOADS of fun lol! So I figured I'd leave you with a happy little post and some pictures from the Air Show we went to on base last weekend... in case I don't survive tomorrow... lol!

Last weekend the Blue Angles from the Naval Base in Pensacola came to Keesler and put on a pretty freakin awesome show! I hadn't been to an air show in a long time, probably since I was a kid. I also forgot how much I loved the sound of the jets flying over head... I think its an Air Force Wife thing ;) The week before the show they were practicing just about every day and it was sooooo nice to listen to them roar their engines over the house. They were also just as fantastic to see! If you ever get the chance, I encourage you to see one of their shows because they are just phenomenal!

The kiddo and her daddy, I think this pic pretty much sums up how she felt about watching the planes ;)

Future Pilot? I think so!

I've been on one of these many times when I was little, flying from Germany back to the states... it was like good times again...

Clearly the child shares her mom and dad's love of guns... I think I see a future sniper.. I seriously couldn't be more proud! (Oh and don't worry its NOT loaded) this was just for demo from the SF.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In

1. What are some of your ideas for staying connected with family…you know, those people we moved thousands of miles away from? submitted by Live it. Love it (or not). Write About It.

We use Skype ALOT! With my bro & sis in law being in Germany these days its pretty much the only way we stay connected other than facebook. With my other friends in various parts
of the US, we text.

2. What’s the most romantic gift you have GIVEN? submitted by Painting My Canvas

I'd have to say my daughter... I know what your thinking... that's not really a "romantic" moment... but when my husband looked me in my eyes and told me that he would LOVE to dish out thousands of dollars to lawyers and courts for me to "offically" become the mother of his child... it was the most romantic & sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me. Nothing says love like I want you to be my childs
mother. :)

3. Would you encourage your child, if they came to you and wanted to join the military? submitted by Perfectly Imperfect
Of course, like I would encourage her with any postive decision in life. It is her life after all... I will always be 100% behind her.

4. What is your least favorite bill to pay and why? submitted by A Little of This, A Little of That

LOL! Who has a favorite bill?!? I dunno about you guys but I HAAAAATE paying bills LOL! I guess my favorite, if I had to pick one is the car payment... I guess because, the sooner I pay it off the sooner I can buy more stuff! LOL

5. What is the proudest moment you’ve had as a military spouse? submitted by Our Okinawa Life

Supporting my husband in all that he does, and seeing him at ceremony's and getting his promotions and new stripes. :)

Happy St. Patricks Day! & Our Ghostly Visit to NOLA

Let me start off by saying... Dia Dhuit to all my fellow Irish lads & lass's today! We are currently sitting at home, having a beer and watching Boondock Saints, so Slainte! Hope you all are having fun :D

Last weekend we went to NOLA for my birthday and we got a chance to do an awesome ghost tour! I have been wanting to do one of these since we moved down here, I have always found NOLA's paranormal activity most interesting! We had a GREAT time on the tour, it was VERY informative and fun! I suggest anyone going to NOLA should do a tour of this kind, its a "hair raising" experience like you've never had before ;) Here's the pics... one of which is pretty interesting... take a look for yourself.

The Chartres House Cafe, where we had poboys and gumbo for dinner! YUM!

My kiddo trying to be scary lol! Raaaawr!

Everywhere was dressed up for Mardi Gras! Sooo pretty!

The Provincial Hotel which once served as a hospital and morgue during the Civil War, more than 1,000 men had lost their lives here in this very place. It is said the ghost of a surgeon wearing a leather mask and apron can be seen walking the halls at night with a saw, searching for his next amputee victim...

I just LOOOOOVE these gas light lanterns! :D

This is one of the oldest buildings in the city, it has survived both great fires of the 17 & 1800's. Legend has it, that it is haunted by a man named "Big John" why he haunts these grounds is unknown, it used to be a factory in the early 1900's and they say he might have died during a repairing of one of the machines... either way I think I might have captured a picture of part of his face....

Now, this could be nothing... but its nice to think its "something" of interest. If you look closely within the red circle you can almost make out part of a man's face like just the bottom and lower right side, possibly a jaw and cheek which looks like he has a beard. Just below that it looks like you can make out just a little bit of his overalls (exactly what the tour guide said he has been seen wearing in other photos) and just barely the snaps of the buttons. What do you guys think???

The infamous Lalaurie Mansion... once owned by Nicholas Cage too! There is LOTS of legend and history surrounding this place. More than I could even blog about but if you really want to read a good hair raising story... check out this website!

Happy Birthday To Me

Happy Birthday to me... Happy Birthday to me... Happy Birthday dear 28...
Happy Birthday to me!

It's that time again... I'm now another year older... I hope 28 will be a good year.
I'm pretty sure you all know what I've wished for when I blew out my candle yesterday... I'm just hoping it comes true this year... if there's one wish I'd like to have come true its a birthday wish.
My pretty birthday roses :)

All in all I had a good day, yesterday. I had to work 10-5 but it was Friday and not too bad. It was also nice to come into fresh donuts in the morning too :) But these are not just any kind of donut these babies are speical, they are a local favorite of just about everyone that lives around here. They are called Tator-nut donuts and yup, you guessed it they are made out of potatoes! They are seriously amazing! Like Krispy Kreme has nothing on them! Its like a donut and a cinnamon roll had an affair and this is their love child! Yeah... that good! Mmmmm mmm! After work I came home grabbed hubby and the munchkin and drove out to Sicily's a local pizza place for some yummy pizza buffet in my scrubs and all LOL. I figure I had been in them for the last 8 hours what difference would another hour make right? Oh but the fun doesn't stop there... tonight is "Give Parents a Break" on base and we have signed up... we get 6 hours of kid-less fun! Don't get me wrong... I love my daughter but hubby and I need some alone time... we havent had that since I started working... and it would be nice to hang out for more than 2 hours before we go to bed like usual... so we are planing on going to the local shooting range for some practice and then we'll be headed to the casino for a little gambling fun! Tomorrow were going to NOLA (since Mardi Gras is over now and its free from tourists again lol!) and just hang out for a while. Hope you all are having a great weekend!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In

I dunno why but this never posted yesterday when I scheduled it... boo! Work is definitely cramping my blogging style! lol! Anyway here is my MilSpouse Friday Fill-In... sorry its a bit late :(

1. During military separations (whether short or long) how do you keep yourself positive and motivated? submitted by Married/Single Parent

Its hard espeically when the time is long but you do what you have to do... I think of my mom and all that she had to endure while my dad was constantly gone, that gives me strength. I look at my daughter and keep going because I know how hard it is on her when her daddy leaves so I just do whatever I can to keep her happy, her and her daddy are tighter than peanut butter and jelly so when he has to leave its really hard on her for the first few weeks. I also use alot of distractions like doing arts and crafts or going out to places, and usually we take one or two special trips as just a "mommy and me" thing.

2. What is your favorite concert you have ever been to? submitted by Young but Not (Completely) Dumb

I have a couple for different reasons... I think going with mom to see Journey and then Motley Crue the next year was my favorite though, just because the two of us had the best time together... then my other favorite was going to see Metallica... I was right up front next to Mack the security guy... got to know him real well during the concert... the best part was reaching out and getting to touch Kirk Hammett's hand! OMG! Awesome!

3. What do you miss most about your “hometown”? submitted by A Florida Girl and Her Soldier

Everything! I miss walking into the grocery store and seeing at least half the people I went to school with... I come from a small'ish town. I miss being able to go over and hang out at my mom and dads when I want to. I miss the local restaurants and our favorite ice cream shop.

4. If you could run in any race, which charity would you choose to support? submitted by Wookie & Co.

It would be either for Susan Komen for Breast Cancer Awareness or Relay for Life. Ive particpated in both of these for years but I've never actually RAN in the races I've done. I am not really a runner though, I think I might die LOL!

5. You find out Willy Wonka is your father, what 3 course meal do you INSIST he create in that stick of gum? submitted by A{muse}ing Mommy on a Pink Park Bench

Hmmmmm... oh man that is an ideal question! Im gonna go with egg rolls, chicken lo mein, and topped off with brownie fudge sunday!

Book Review Buttercream Bump Off by: Jenn McKinlay

Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura must be doing something right with their Fairy Tale Cupcakes bakery. Their business rival, Olivia Puckett, is parading up and down the sidewalk dressed as a Giant Cupcake to steal customers. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, she's clearly feeling desperate.

Unfortunately, she's not the only desperate one in Scottsdale, Arizona. Someone has iced Baxter Malloy on his first date with Mel's mother. Her mom had been hoping for someone drop dead gorgeous-but not literally. Now she's a suspect, and Mel and Angie need to find time between frosting Kiss Me Cupcake to dig into Malloy's past and discover who served him his just desserts.

A awesome follow up to "Sprinkle with Murder"! I think its safe to say that Jenn McKinlay has me officially hooked on her cute and hilarious cupcake mystery capers! Buttercream Bump Off had a great plot and some hilarious scenarios! I love the bits of romance Jenn McKinlay works into the storyline as well. These books are refreshing fun reads and I cant wait to see what Mel Cooper and Angie DeLaura will be baking up next!

Happy Mardi Gras 2011

Happy Mardi Gras Yall!

I have been offiically off work for 2 days for Mardi Gras, can you believe that places close for 2 days just so we can PARTY! I know... awesome isn't it!?! Even the kids are out of school! Yeah, Mardi Gras is THAT big of a deal, but then again its an amazing event that no one should miss, if given the opportunity! We've had beignet's for breakfast already and I am making po-boys and gumbo for dinner tonight and topping it off with some king cake! ... Don't look at me like that... it is FAT TUESDAY after all... ;) Saturday we went to D'Iberville's parade "Kewe de Mystique". A crew is a organization that puts on the parade or ball... just in case your wondering, there's been alot of things down here (not just all Mardi Gras related) that I've had to learn, but its amazing how they do things down here. This is why I never want to leave... I seriously think I could live down here for forever, now just to convince our family to move from Florida to here LOL!

And in case you wanna try some good cajun recipe's and experience a little Mardi Gras yourself... here's a few of my recipes for what I'm making... except my Gumbo... that's a secret I'm taking to the grave... just like most cajun ladies do! LOL! Just know... "The secret's in the sauce" ;)

Jess's Easy Beignet's

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Total Time: 16 minutes
Ingredients:

* ½ cup butter
* 1 cup water
* ¼ teaspoon salt
* 1 cup all-purpose flour
* 4 eggs
* Oil for deep frying
* 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar

Preparation:

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter in the water. Add salt and flour, and stir until a sticky batter is formed. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until the batter is smooth.

Heat the oil to 375F. Fry mounded teaspoons of dough, several at a time, for about 6 minutes. They are done when they are light, golden brown on each side. Drain them for a few minutes on a clean kitchen towel and serve warm, dusted with the confectioners’ sugar.

This beignets recipe makes 28 to 32.

Spicy Shrimp Po-Boys

Yield: 4 sandwiches
Ingredients:
For the remoulade sauce:
½ cup plus 2 tbsp. light mayonnaise
2 tbsp. stone ground mustard
1 clove garlic, minced
1½ tbsp. pickle juice
½ tsp. prepared horseradish
¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
¼ tsp. hot paprika
Dash of hot sauce

For the sandwiches:
1 lb. medium-large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 tbsp. olive oil
2 tbsp. Cajun seasoning blend
1 baguette (or 4 sandwich rolls)
Shredded lettuce
Sliced tomato

Directions:
To make the remoulade sauce, combine all of the sauce ingredients in a blender or food processor and process until smooth. (If you don’t have a blender or food processor, you can just mix it in a small bowl with a spoon.) Adjust seasonings to taste. Chill until ready to use.

To prepare the sandwiches, combine the shrimp with the olive oil and cajun seasoning in a medium bowl. Toss well to coat the shrimp. Heat a grill pan to medium-high and grill the shrimp just until opaque, about 2 minutes per side. Remove the shrimp from the pan and set aside.

Slice the baguette into 4 servings, and cut horizontally to open the bread. Spread some of the remoulade sauce onto both pieces of the bread. Layer the bottom slice of bread with shrimp, then top with lettuce and tomato as desired. Top with the remaining piece of bread and serve immediately.

Here's a few pics from Saturday's parade too :)

(Yes, those are in deed thongs on his head ;)

So as you can see... its not just all about the partying (ok maybe lol ) but its about taking it easy, having a good time with the people you love and letting the good times roll...
...its a way of life down here!

Book Review: Sprinkle with Murder by Jenn McKinlay

"Cupcakes to Die For!"

Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura are finally living out their dream as the proud owners of Fairy Tale Cupcakes bakery. Their first big order is a sweet deal, too-five hundred cupcakes for a fashion designer's wedding. The only sour note is the demanding bridezilla who insists on orginal recipes for the cupcakes.
When Mel stumbles upon the bride-to-be dead-by-cupcake, she immediately becomes the prime suspect. The police believe that the secret ingredient in the cupcakes caused her death. To save Mel and their business, the ladies need to find the real murderer-before the cupcake killer ices someone else...

This was one of the cuuuuuuutest little cozy's I've read yet! What a spectacular ending too! I did recognize the killer a little over half way through the book but it was still very much enjoyable by how psychotic they were! I love the friendship between Mel, Angie and Tate and I also love the little bit of romance that Jenn McKinlay threw in there as well. All in all this book was absolutely adorable and dripping with so much pink frosting cuteness, that I cant wait to read her follow up "Buttercream Bump Off"!

Bling Bling!

So I am linking up (like so many others) with Mrs. Yellow Ribbon, she is starting a new blogging link up of "show me your..." and starting it off with BLING! Sweet! How fun is that?! So here's mine! :D

This was just a few minutes after I put it on for the first time, I know I don't look that thrilled but it was just after I woke up LOL! :)

Did you look at rings together?
Actually he told me to pick out what I wanted...Nothing about us is traditional LOL!

Do you like your ring? Did you from the beginning?...and be honest!
Oh yeah! But then again, I picked it out... but its exactly what I wanted... something modern.

How often do you wear your rings?
I take mine off when I shower and when I'm at work, when working with patients where it will cause a problem like gloves... He used to have to take his off at work when he worked with the electrical equipment for safety reasons.

Do you clean your rings?
I have a cloth jewelry cleaner that I use on it but that's about it... I'm too afraid to dip it in something.

What went through your mind the very first time you saw your ring?
"This is EXACTLY what I want!" "Its perfect!" "Its like a dream come true"

Book Review: Sucker Punch by Sammi Carter

Abby's life is sweet. She's settling into running her candy shop, dealing with her busybody family, and maintaining a solid-if-slow relationship with local police detective Pine Jawarski. But Abby's smooth sailing soon turns into a rocky road when a friend asks her to audition for a musical with some considerably talented locals. Out of curiosity, Abby pops her head into the chaotic audition-and finds a dead star center stage. Now she needs to find the true culprit and clear her friend's name before her newfound happiness is totally fudged...

I liked this book alot and as usual all my favorite characters. I also liked that this particular book was set during Valentines Day, it let have a look at what Divinity is like during a "holiday". I also liked that Abby took a little break from Jawarski this time around, it showed how she is still very strong she is and that she doesn't always need him to come swooping in and saving the day. It also confirmed some of the relationship "issues" she has with him as well and I think that was a great way to tie them together. My only semi-complaints might be, that the victim was killed a little too soon in the story... it kinda made "downtime" in the story drag on a little. I was left a little stunned to find out that Alexander Pastorelli mysteriously disappears and no one ever says why...? Overall though it was a great book with a very suspenseful ending, and once again Sammi Carter has captivated me :)

-Favorite Quotes From The Book-

"My date was waiting for me at the kitchen door, ears perked, tail wagging, and bits of wicker clinging to his nose and mouth."

"I consoled myself with the fact that I had max. He's warm, attentive, and completely devoted. Who could ask for anything more?"
