30 Days of Books: Day 16

Day 16 – Favorite poem or collection of poetry

My favorite collection of poetry is from Jim Morrison (yes, the lead singer to the doors)
I have his book Wilderness which kinda like a memoir of lost poems. His poetry is amazing
and beautiful, I first discovered it while I was in high school.

My other favorite poet is Steven J. Javan he has a collection of poetry in books called; Something
to Someone, A Heart Full of Love, Meet Me Halfway and Footprints in the Mind.

I also love classic poetry by Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, Edgar Allan Poe, Willaim Butler Yeats, and William Shakespear.

They have all inspired me at one point or another while writing my own poetry.

30 Days of Me: Day 14

A non-fiction book.

It's kinda funny... I barely own any non fiction books. I have this thing about "self help"... my philosophy is I'll just figure it out on my own, which is usually the hard way. Hubs has tons of non-fiction computer geek books, in fact that's all he reads. Even the non-fiction books I have are just either cook books, language books or my criminology books (Im an ex criminology major, I wanted to be either a forensics analyst or a criminal profiler ). I think the only book that I own and love that's non-fiction is sorta a memoir type by Jim Morrison (yes, the singer from the Doors) Its his book of lost writings and poetry called Wilderness. I first fell in love with this amazing book during my high school years, I have kept it since and whenever I feel the need to trip down teenage angst lane again I crack it open.

Just some of my faves from the book, the ones that I felt the most (the ones that felt me back);

I can make the earth stop in its tracks
I made the blue cars go away
I can make myself invisible or small
I can become gigantic and reach the farthest things
I can change the course of nature
I can place myself anywhere in space or time
I can summon the dead
I can perceive events on other worlds
In my deepest inner mind
And in the minds of others
I can
I am

I am troubled
Immeasurably
By your eyes
I am struck
By the feather
Of your soft reply
The sound of glass
Speaks quick
Disdain
And conceals
What your eyes fight
To explain

What are you doing here?
What do you want?
Is it music?
We can play music
But you want more
You want something and someone new
Am I right?
Of course I am
I know what you want
You want ecstasy
Desire and dreams
Things not exactly what they seem
I lead you this way, he pulls you that way
I'm not singing to an imaginary girl
I'm talking to you, my self
Let's recreate the world
The palace of conception is burning
Look, see it burn?
Bask in the warm hot coals
You're too young to be old
You don't need to be told
You want to see things as they are
You know exactly what I do
Everything.
